New NURTW leadership challenges Adeleke’s order, resumes operations in Osun

The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun State, Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Ashiri Eniba, has gone against Governor Ademola Adeleke’s directive suspending activities at motor parks after recent violent clashes.
Oyewale said members of the union have returned to work and normal activities have resumed across motor parks in the state.
Speaking shortly after taking office on Saturday, he explained that the new state executives were invited to Abuja, where they were officially inaugurated to lead the affairs of the Osun State Council.
He urged residents not to see NURTW members as violent people, saying commercial drivers are responsible citizens with families.
Oyewale also called on the police to investigate the killing of some union members during the crisis. He appealed to members who had stayed away from the union because of the crisis to return, saying the union remains one family.
He asked the Osun State Government to work with the new leadership, stressing that the NURTW is an independent organisation that is ready to cooperate with all stakeholders.
According to him, leadership changes are normal in every organisation. He said the new executives were inaugurated in Abuja so they could officially take charge of the union in Osun State.
He assured residents that peace has returned to all motor parks and that the violence has ended. Oyewale also thanked the Nigeria Police Force for its efforts in restoring peace and encouraged officers to continue their work.
He added that work had resumed at motor parks across the state.
Also speaking, the Interim Secretary of the Osun State Council of the NURTW and Group 2 Chairman for the Ife Federal Constituency, Ayinde Mutiu Olakunle, confirmed that normal activities have resumed in motor parks following the resolution of the union’s leadership crisis.
Olakunle appealed to members to maintain peace and avoid violence or any act that could disrupt public order. He said the NURTW remains one united family despite the recent crisis.
He assured the people of Osun State that there is no longer any fighting in the state’s motor parks and encouraged all members to return and continue their daily activities.
