Imo Gets Support To Host Women Cricket Tourney

States in the South East zone of Nigeria are backing Imo State as it gets set to host the 3rd National Women Cricket Championship.

Regional Development Co-ordinator of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, NCF, for South East, Emeka Igwilo, said the the support is not only for Imo State to organise a memorable tournament, but also for the state’s women team to win the tourney.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Imo State Cricket Association, Dr. Omako Okoh, has inaugurated the Local Organising Committee, LOC for the tourney with Sir Olympia Mbakwem as the Chairman.

Other members of the committee include Tony Ajaelu, who is the secretary, Chris Abiazem, Mrs. Patty Ezeji (PRO, Imo State Sports Council), Ndubisi Emmanuel, Chukwuezi Nnabugo, Mrs. Gloria Okehi, Mrs. Maureen Ubochi, Samuel Akubuighe, Okey Anyanwu and Akin Orumiyi.

Okoh has charged the committee to organise a historic championship.

Meanwhile, the Imo State women team, F-Stumping Cricket Club (F-SCC), have intensified preparation for the championship.

The captain of the team Justina Onyedum said that the team will surely lift the trophy as all the players are in high spirits.

The state also plans to give Government Secondary School Cricket Oval a facelift to meet up with the standard of the championship which will attract cricketers across the country.
