Ikorodu Council Secretariat An Eyesore —Lagos Lawmakers

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly this morning described the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat as an eyesore saying it is more of a ghetto than an administrative structure.

The lawmakers who could not fathom why the Council Chairman, Sheriff Anipole, a second termer could run a council where it is evident nothing works, left the place in anger.

They had visited the council as part of the oversight functions of the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The lawmakers decried the dilapidated structure which houses offices of the staff.

According to the Chairman House Committee on Physical Planning, Mufutau Egberongbe, who is also a member of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, “if nothing urgent is done to bring the building back to life, it will soon crumble before we know it.”

Another member of the Committee, Ipoola Omisore, wondered why the Council which is supposed to be the leading light of other councils in the Ikorou Division had become a ghetto.

They also queried why councillors in the council do not have offices and why the mace used by the legislative chamber is so old.

Chairman of the Committee, Olarenwaju Oshun, gave the council chairman a seven-day ultimatum to comply with the directive on the provision of offices for the councillors.

He was also asked to immediately begin the renovation of the entire building as they would soon visit the Council secretariat again.
