Eguma Carpets Referees

Coach of Dolphins Football Club of Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma has said that referees are contributing greatly to the woes befalling Nigeria Premier League, NPL.

Eguma’s side fell 0-2 to Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi, yesterday in a week 15 NPL match at Katsina-Ala Stadium in Benue State.

“The way our referees handle league match is nothing to write home about and if they go on like this it would be to the detriment of the league,” he said.

Eguma also noted that the arrangement of the fixtures by the NPL board is not good for the clubs, where matches are played every 48 hours. “This arrangement is telling on my team. The players are human beings; I think they need rest after each match. NPL makes us to play matches every 48 hours despite the fact that we are playing in the continental tournament. An example is our game against Cotton Sport this weekend.

“I want to appeal to the authorities to postpone our midweek game against Enyimba so that we can rest and focus on the CAF Champions League match taking place this weekend,” Eguma enthused.
