Moyes Glad, As Everton Defeat Swansea

Everton boss David Moyes feels his side finally got the result his players’ performance deserved after their 2-0 win at Swansea on Saturday.

The Toffees lost narrowly to Arsenal in midweek and prior to that had been held to a draw with Sunderland in the FA Cup and lost 3-0 at Mersey rivals Liverpool at Anfield – results Moyes felt were harsh on his players.

However, the Toffees bounced back in fine style with a 2-0 victory at the Liberty Stadium thanks to goals from Leighton Baines and Nikica Jelavic.

A delighted Moyes felt his side got their just rewards for committed display against Brendan Rodgers’ in-form side.

“It is great to win away from home in the Premier League,” Moyes told Sky Sports. “Especially to win at Swansea as they have a great record here, they are a really good side.

“They’ve been fantastic in the Premier League and to get this amount of points already it’s a great credit to Brendan and his team.

“But our team were terrific today, I think we have played well in recent weeks and not quite got the results we deserved.

“But they got it today because we scored two and probably should have scored four or five.

“But Swansea were still always a threat while it was only 2-0, you always worry that they nick a goal but I’ve got to say the players played really well.

“Phil Jagielka was terrific at the back today, and Steven Pienaar showed some great glimpses and should have set three or four goals up.”

Moyes also took take time out to highlight the influence of Darron Gibson, who was back in the side for the first time since February after recovering from a knee ligament injury.

The midfielder has yet to lose in an Everton shirt since joining from Manchester United in January and his manager was full of praise for the impact he has made.

When asked whether Everton had missed Gibson, Moyes admitted. “We have.

“I thought it took him 30 or 40 minutes to get up to the speed of the game but he has been out for a month and before signing him he had not played that many games for Manchester United so we may have played him too much and he picked up an injury.

“But we’ve got him back now and hopefully between now and the end of the season he will stay fit.”
