Lagos Lawmaker Loses Car To Robbers
A lawmaker at the Lagos state House of Assembly and current Chairman, House Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affair, Olarenwaju Oshun, has lost his car to robbers who also shot the occupant of the car.
P.M.NEWS learnt that the lawmaker had sent the car to his personal mechanic for routine check and servicing when the incident happened.
The mechanic was driving the car, a sky-blue Toyota Camry LE with registration number PE 637 KJA, to test it after the repairs, he was attacked by the robbers who shot him as he tried to resist them.
Since the incident occurred, the car has not been found, but the lawmaker, who confirmed the incident to P.M.NEWS, said the case was immediately reported at the Sango Police station close to where the incident took place recently.
“My mechanic was going out with the car. He had some repairs to do on it, but the robbers attacked him and tried to collect the car from him.
“When he resisted and attempted to escape, he was shot on the thigh and is currently in critical situation at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi,” Oshun said hoping that the mechanic survives the gunshot wound he sustained.
Asked if he felt the robbers specifically targeted the car because it belonged to a lawmaker, Oshun said he would not know.
He however added that on the windscreen of the car are two stickers, one which is officially the sticker that allows lawmakers into the Assembly Complex and the other which recognises the car as belonging to a lawmaker.
“What I don’t know is if that was what attracted them or if it was a chance robbery,” he added.
He expressed hope that the car would be found, but urged the public to be security conscious especially while driving because, according to him, the mechanic did not pin the car doors and this may have granted the robbers easy access into it even though sometimes, one cannot resist a robber with a gun.
