Wrestlemania: WWE Fans Celebrate Wrestlemania XXVIII
WWE WrestleMania XXVIII was a huge success, setting records at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens.
WWE superstars, divas, legends and fans had a great time and it was a big economic boom to Miami-Dade County as well as a strong community outreach.
It was the day after party for The Rock and his strong allegiance of fans, who celebrated his WWE WrestleMania XXVIII victory over John Cena and the culmination of a successful WrestleMania Week, by attending WWE Monday Night Raw at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami.
Raw (WWE’s top weekly primetime TV programme on the USA Network) was the finale of WrestleMania Week for WWE, its fans and Miami-Dade County.
“I am extremely proud of all of us here in Miami,” Miami-Dade County Commissioner and Miami-Dade Sports Commission Chairman, Jose Pepe Diaz, said.
“WWE enjoyed being here. The fans who travelled from around the world were incredible. The economic benefit was great, over $70 million into our economy and the job opportunities it created. It was larger than the Super Bowl with the attendance record.”
WrestleMania XXVIII set three records.
With a sold-out crowd of 78,363 fans from all 50 states and 36 countries, the annual pop culture extravaganza became Sun Life Stadium’s largest attended event, breaking the mark of 77,912 for the BCS National Championship in 2005. It was also the highest-grossing entertainment event at Sun Life Stadium at $8.9 million, eclipsing U2 on 29 June, 2011 at $7.5 million. WrestleMania XXVIII surpassed the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania in Houston, which grossed $7.2 million.
This marks the third consecutive year WrestleMania broke the gross entertainment event record of the host venue.
“WrestleMania XXVIII in Miami-Dade County was an incredible event for WWE,” said John P. Saboor, Senior Vice President of Special Events, WWE. “WWE would like to thank our loyal fans, as well as the public and private sector partners for their tireless efforts to help make WrestleMania Week such a success.”
Diaz added: “I’m happy it went off as good as it did. From John Cena, The Rock, everybody was extremely happy. I think this community is a very good fit for this, and in the next couple of years, let’s do it again.”
WWE superstar Chris Jericho, a former ABC “Dancing With the Stars” contestant, would love that: “The thing I liked best about Miami was actually the hotel we’re staying at, the Intercontinental hotel. Though it sounds weird, for us, that’s been the best, as far as the organisation they had for us. The people who work there were amazing.
“The [Miami Beach] Convention Center where we had [WrestleMania] Axxess was amazing. The stadium is incredible. I was here [Sun Life] a couple of years ago to see Paul McCartney, which was amazing. So this is just a great city and the people were great, really.
“Miami has really supported WrestleMania and made this one very special for all of us.
“To meet Lucy Lopez and Elva Manrique (who travelled from Spain to attend WrestleMania Axxess, WrestleMania and Raw) is incredible.
