NSC’s DG, Ekeji’s Office Burgled

Reports reaching P.M.Sports say the office of the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Dr. Patrick Ekeji was has burgled by some unknown persons yesterday.

It was gathered from a Press Release signed by Ovuakporie Efe of the Press & Public Relations unit of NSC, that some vital information gadgets were among the items stolen from the office of the DG, which is situated on the first floor of the Federal Secretariat complex Maitama, Abuja.

The items stolen, according to Efe are the DG’s personal computer, the Secretary’s personal computer, the office Desktop and a CPU.

“Although, the motive for the theft is yet to be ascertained, there are suspicions that the burglary may not be unconnected with attempts by the perpetrators to smear the reputation of the NSC with a view to destroying the public confidence in the establishment,” Efe claimed in the release.

Speaking on the incident, the Director Human Resources Management and Finance, Mustapha Mohammed stated that the perpetrators were out to tarnish the image of the Commission, having tried several methods in the past including parading false documents and going public with them, spreading rumour and distorting facts to present an untrue picture of the Commission.

He said such an act will be futile as the NSC administration is open to public scrutiny at all times even as it has nothing to hide.

On his part, Deputy Director Accounts, Tokunbo Balogun expressed dismay at the incident. He said that given the security situation in the country in recent times, such an occurrence as burglary in a government institution should be a source of grave concern to the authorities, especially when it happens within precincts where security personnel are assigned.

The NSC said the incident has been reported at the Police post in the Federal Secretariat complex.
