Hall Of Fame Show Gets Medical Boost

Chaiman, Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame, LBHF, Wale Edun, has revealed that the State’s Ministry of Sports has made available standard medical services during last Saturday Monthly Boxing Shows.

Speaking last Saturday at the 29th edition of the show held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Lagos, Edun said the move was necessary in order to make amateur boxing in the state conform with international standards.

The LBHF boss added that the medical services will be made available for the boxers during the events to arrest any medical condition that may arise during boxing bouts.

“I don’t think I need to tell anybody why we need world-class medical services in this hall. We need to be very careful, considering what has happened to Patrice Muamba in the English Premier League,” said Edun.

Edun added “We always make standard resurcitation kits available for the medical personnel that are on ground in order to nip in the bud any medical consern that comes up among the boxers during shows.”

The LBHF topshot revealed that the body always make it a point of duty that all boxers are given clean bill of health before they can be allowed to get into the ring.

“All the boxers are made to go for medical tests before they can be allowed to fight. We only allow a boxer to fight if he has been pronounced fit for a bout by our medical personnel,” Edun concluded.

However, Edun expressed his pleasure over the presence of school pupils at the championship, saying the idea is a good one.

“I am very happy that school pupils now have the opportunity to watch live boxing bouts. It is good for them because they will be able to learn from the discipline involved in boxing,” added Edun.
