World Safety Day: Commission Stages Road Show
The Lagos State Safety Commission embarked on a road show yesterday to mark this year’s World Safety Day in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
The road show kicked off at the commission’s office at CMD Road, Magodo, Ketu while the officials of the commission moved round the Ikeja Central Business District distributing fliers to sensitise the people on the need to be safety conscious.
Flagging of the road show, the Director General of the commission, Mrs Odebunmi Dominga said the aim was to let thee people know that they must be safety conscious at all time.
“It is just to create awareness in the people that life is more important than investments.
“Many company executives don’t take safety to be key in their offices. Many lives are lost in avoidable accidents. Many people toil with lives.
“People should not compromise safety for anything. Again, some school bus drivers knock down the children after dropping them in their frontages because they don’t take safety seriously,” she stated.
Dominga vowed that companies and individuals who failed to comply with the safety rule would be sanctioned.
She also called on people who are not qualified contractors to desist from taking building contracts in order to avoid cases of incessant building collapse.
Dominga said the commission had the statutory responsibility to ensure proper safety standard in Lagos as enshrined in the act setting up the commission.
