I Won’t Choose My Successor -Amaechi
Those who are already angling to be the Governor of Rivers State and positioning themselves for Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s endorsement for 2015 are in for a shocker as he has vowed not choose or impose a successor on the people.
Governor Amaechi made this known during an interactive session with a cross section the media in the state at Government House in Port Harcourt Friday in an answer to question about how he intends to ensure the sustainability of the structures his administration has put in place.
He said: “I will not play God by choosing who will succeed me. I will rather leave God and Rivers people to choose who their next governor will be. But a governor who can withstand pressure from political jobbers who want board appointments for selfish pecuniary gains will be good for the state.”
Governor Amaechi there are stories aboute ex-governors who handpicked their successors and they ended up being at daggers drawn with them.
He recalled his performance in various sectors and said his administration has been able to silence his critics due to the provision of good network of roads, schools, hospitals and and boosting of agriculture.
He said his government has built 120 hospitals of the 160 he promised.
He said the administration is looking at ways of encouraging mothers to visit health centres by providing them with launch and transportation each time they attend clinics in government health centres.
