Ex-Ondo Deputy Gov, Omoboriowo Dies
Former deputy governor of the old Ondo State, Chief Akin Omoboriowo, is dead.
Confirming his death, his son, Akin Omoboriowo Jr said that his father died yesterday.
Though P.M.NEWS could not ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death of the astute politician from Ekiti State, eminent Ekiti indigenes have started reacting.
The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his predecessor, Engineer Segun Oni said the state has just lost its worthy son.
Fayemi said that the late politician will forever be missed.
Omoboriowo was deputy governor between October 1979 and 1983 in the old Ondo state during the Second Republic.
In 1983, he ran for governorship under the platform of the National Party of Nigeria, NPN, against his boss, Chief Michael Ajasin of the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, and was declared winner on 16 August 1983.
His declaration as a governor-elect sparked violent protest in Ondo state, leading to the destruction of lives and properties.
Before Omoboriowo assumed office, the appealant court reversed the decision of the electoral body and Ajasin regained power and was in office till 31 December 1983 when the General Muhammed Buhari coup sent the President Shehu Shagari administration packing.
