Lagos Inter-Club Tourney Ends

The first Lagos State Inter-Club Shooting Championship will end today at the outdoor Shooting Range of the Rowe Park in Yaba, Lagos.

The three-day tourney, which started on Monday is sponsored by the Lagos State Government and organised by the Lagos State Shooting Association, LSSA. The tourney is organised to enable the shooters in the state put themselves in shape for National and International competitions.

Speaking with P.M Sports on their preparation for the closing ceremony, Technical Director of the tourney, Bidemi Adeboye, who doubles as the Technical Director of the Lagos State Shooting Association said: “We have invited a lot of dignitaries to come and witness the impressive performances being showcased by our shooters at this ‘catch them young’ championship.The Commissioner of Sports in Lagos State, Enitan Oshodi has already promised he will be available and hopefully, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola will send a representative for the event.”

Co-ordinator of the tourney, Supol. Bode Ojajuni, is glad with some young and promising shooters discovered at the tourney. He added that the Lagos Shooting Association have concluded plans to continue to organise a tourney every quarter of the year.

Some of the shooters that qualified yesterday for the final slated for today in both Air Rifle and Air Pistol event include; Sheyi David from Zion Club, Florence Adekoya from Civil Defence, Rahmon Adisa from Gateway Club, Mary Ademokoya from Late Sunday Bada Club, Madu Adimchi from Fort Club, Ajimuda John from Zion Club and Israel Olaleye of the Police Team.

The Lagos State Shooting team have brought glory and fame to the state in previous National Sports Festivals through the winning of laurels, which included the Gateway 2006, where they won two Gold, five Silver and five Bronze medals.Unfortunately, Shooting has not been part of the Sports Festival since 2009 when Kaduna hosted the bi-annual tourney.
