Shooting: Rahman, Ogunkoya Rule Lagos Tourney

Adisa Rahman of Gateway Shooting Club and Florence Ogunkoya of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Wednesday emerged winners at the just concluded First Lagos State Inter-Club Shooting tournament held at the Rowe Park Shooting Range in Yaba, Lagos.

Rahman won in the Male pistol event with over 20 points ahead of his closest opponent, while Ogunkoya had to overcome a stiff challenge from Nwamodo Mary of Forth Shooting Club to finish first with less than 10 points.

Francis Aimerawo of Sunday Bada Club was the winner in the male Rifle event ahead of Ajimuda John from Zion Club and Folahan Dare from Gateway Club. Chairman of the occasion, DCP J.B. Olaleye, advised the shooters not to be discouraged with the dearth of sponsorship for the sport.

“I want you to remain dedicated to the sport despite the little problem we are facing at the moment”, said Olaleye.

Guest Speaker at the occasion, Wole Madariola, expressed his displeasure over the shooting range at the Rowe Park and promised to give the place a facelift.

The long time supporter of shooting in Lagos State, however, appealed to the Organising Committee of the next National Sports Festival, NSF to feature shooting at the games, adding that Nigeria won medals in the sport at the last All Africa Games in Mozambique.
