Osaze Ready For Midlands Derby
Super Eagles of Nigeria international, Peter Osaze Odemwingie is expected to be fit for Saturday’s game when West Bromwich Albion face Aston Villa in the West Midlands derby.
Odemwingie suffered a head injury in West Brom’s 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield over the weekend.
But the striker has been quoted in the British media describing it as “a little wound.”
“I just got a little wound on my head,” he said.
Odemwingie scored the winner at Liverpool and now wants the Baggies to push for a top-ten finish that will see them end the season higher than their rivals, Aston Villa for the first time in 33 years.
Roy Hodgson’s men are currently nine points ahead of Villa and the 30-year-old forward is delighted that his team will meet their target of finishing in the top half of the English Barclays Premier League standings.
“I think now we should finish in the top ten. I’m delighted about that as at the end of the season I will be able to beat my chest and say I’m playing for a team who are in the top ten of English football.
“That was our goal (from the outset of this season) and that was the most important thing for us this season. That will be a very important thing for our fans, so we are looking forward to making that possible for them,” the Super Eagles’ striker remarked.
Odemwingie is also proud of his record of scoring double figures for modest West Bromwich Albion.
The former LOSC Lille marksman has netted ten times this season in spite of injuries in between the season.
“When I signed here (at West Brom last season) double figures was always in my mind and people say double figures for a club like West Brom is always a great achievement,” he said.
Last season, Odemwingie scored 15 goals and became transfer targets of some of English top clubs including Arsenal.
