APFAN Immortalises Olubayo

In a bid to immortalise the late Nigeria international, Olubayo Adefemi, the Association of Proprietors of Football Academies of Nigeria, APFAN, have concludedplans to organise afootball competition in his honour.

Michael Etim, Secretary General of APFAN disclosed in a chat with P.M. Sports, Etim revealed that the body has packaged a football competition which started in Lagos State last year.

“We have already started a football tournament in Lagos State under the umbrella of our association in honour of late Adefemi. We have taken this great step because we realise that it is necessary to immortalise him,” said Etim.

He stated that the association is planning to improve on the competition by making it a national event.

“We are working very hard to make sure that the competition metamorphose to a national level. The association believes this is the only way the late footballer will continue to live in the hearts of football loving Nigerians,” said Etim.

Asked why the association is honouring the former Bendel Insurance player, Etim declared that Olubayo was a role model to upcoming footballers in his lifetime.

The 2005 U-20 World Youth Championship and Beijing Olympics silver medallist died on 18 April 2011 in an auto crash while driving on Egnatia Odos, near the city of Kavala, Greece on his way to finalise details of his wedding in Nigeria.
