First Deepwater Beat First Bank Again

Defending champions of the Zenith Bank Women Basketball League, First Deepwater Basketball Club of Lagos yesterday proved that their win over former champions, First Bank club of Lagos last season was no fluke as they defeated them again by 69-63 points, at the on-going second phase of the 2011/2012 season holding in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The game was played inside the basketball court of the University of Ilorin, saw the Lateef Erinfolami-coached side rise from a 33-35 points loss at half-time to push back the Adewunmi Aderemi side, in the third and fourth quarters by 14-09 and 22-19 for a final score of 69-63 points, to secure their third straight league title.

Having gone unbeaten in the first phase in March at Kaduna and still undefeated at the ongoing second phase in Ilorin, First Deepwater are almost certain of retaining the title they won last season for the second time in a row after their maiden triumph in 2009/2010 season.

While speaking with P.MSports this morning from their hotel in Ilorin, Erinfolami said “Inspite of the victory we recorded yesterday against our arch-rival, First Bank, we are not going to rest on our oars but rather continue the hardwork to make sure we don’t let complacency set in.”

Results of some other games played yesterday are: Immigration of Kano lose to FCT Angels of Abuja by 37-54 points, Plateau Rocks of Jos kissed the court with a 46-50 points lose to Delta Force of Asaba while Sunshine Angels of Akure had the better of AHIP Angels by 69-48 points.

Action continues today with four game on the bill, Immigration will do battle against city rival AHIP, Nigeria Customs will have their hands full when they confront Sunshine Angels, while Plateau Rocks will take on First Deepwater in the last game of the day.
