Gunmen on Friday invaded Fune Local Government Secretariat in Yobe State and carted away staff salaries for April.

Alhaji Maina Digima, the Chairman of the council, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said the gunmen snatched the salaries when the workers were receiving their salaries.

The council suffered the attack 10 days after the incident in the Cattle Market in Potiskum, which is 20 kilometres away. The chairman said that the council started the payment of April salary on May 10.

“In fact, some departments have almost finished payment, while others were still disbursing the money when the gunmen struck. As at now, we cannot say how much was involved. This can only be ascertained when we have verified how many people had been paid and those still pending,’’ he said.

Potiskum Local Government workers also lost their March salaries to gunmen while the payment was in progress.
