Lagos Lifts restriction on movement Saturday

The Lagos State Government will not restrict movement of people and vehicles during Saturday’s environmental sanitation, the Commissioner for the Environment, Mr Tunji Bello has said.

He said the non-restriction of movement was to enable students and invigilators to participate in examinations.

Bello noted that the 2012 Senior Secondary Examinations, organised by the National Examination Council, would start on Saturday.

He said that non-restriction of movement would also enable a hitch-free movement of the examination materials to various centres.

The commissioner, however, implored Lagos residents to observe the monthly sanitation by cleaning their surroundings.

He appealed to them to clear drains in their neighbourhood to allow free flow of water into the secondary and tertiary channels.

Bello cautioned against dumping of refuse into the drains, saying that it caused their blockage.

“Residents should report anyone found dumping refuse in any water path to law enforcement agencies; shielding such people would further endanger lives and property,’’ he said.

He gave the assurance that the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) would evacuate all refuse generated during the exercise to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.
