‘Chariots’ll Bounce Back’
After they were relegated to the National Division One league, from the DSTV- sponsored Nigeria Men’s basketball legue, organised by Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, Chariots basketball club head coach, Alex Owoicho Ujoh has revealed that they will bounce back into the premier league next season.
The Lagos based club finished at the bottom of the Atlantic conference log in the just ended regular season of the Nigerian basketball league, a feat that denied them a place in the final 8 playoff scheduled to start from 21-28 July, 2012, in Lagos.
Speaking at the weekend, Ujoh said: “Our aim is to ensure that we qualify back into the premier league next season. We don’t deserve to be relegated to the National Division One league but for the inexperience of my players we could not sustain the high tempo of the premier league.”
While reacting to a question on how they would ensure they don’t lose some of their good players to premier league teams, coach Alex, as his popularly called by his players, said: “I am trusting on our management to ensure that the players salaries are paid in advance to dissuade them from being lured by other teams.”
He also revealed that they would begin preparation for the challenges that await them in the lower league, adding that they also intend to add some new players into the team in the future, depending on the availability of quality players.
