NSC To Review Policy On Sports Federations
Nigeria’s Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has said that NSC will soon review its policy on the management of national sports federations and reorder its priority in relation to those sports in which Nigeria has comparative advantage in Africa.
According to the NSC website, the minister told a meeting of the Presidents, Technical Officials and Secretaries Generals of sports federations going to the 2012 London Summer Olympics that the review becomes imperative in order to strategically manage the scarce resources at the Commission’s disposal and to have optimal results in view of the present administration’s Transformation Agenda.
He reiterated his resolve not to be a minister for football alone, but stressed that he will not seek to carry 44 federations along in the first instance, where such attempt is not likely to yield dividends.
According to him, the Commission would use 10 Sports federations as a pilot scheme to determine how far it can succeed and thereafter more federations would be added to the number depending on the progress recorded.
The minister reaffirmed that the reason why Nigeria is going to the Olympics is to win and not just to make up the numbers.
