Accept Bribe, Get Sacked, FRSC Warns Officers
The Zonal Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Zone 11, Mr. Sambo Kinya, has warned officers against accepting bribes from traffic offenders.
Kinya gave the warning on Wednesday during a familiarisation visit to Osun Sector Command of the commission.
He said any officer found collecting bribe from motorists would face immediate dismissal as a deterrent to others.
“I want to remind you that the labour market is completely full and if you do not want the job again you can go and be collecting “roja” (bribe).”
According to the commander, reports have reached the management on the alleged collection of bribe.
“If you do not stop this practice, you will soon find yourself in trouble.
“The police are no longer on the highway, do not take that as an advantage and continue to collect N200,” he warned.
He said there was no excuse for any officer to indulge in any form of scandal, adding that the management was taking care of their welfare.
Kinya used the occasion to announce the cancellation of township roads patrol, adding that the presence of officers must henceforth be felt on the highways and expressroads.
He noted that the zone, which comprised Osun, Oyo and Ondo had the highest record of traffic crashes in spite of the fact that it was considered as the best “yet we are lacking in certain areas.”
Kinya warned that any officer, who violated the patrol order, would face the consequence, and appealed to them to always respond in good time whenever crashes occurred.
The commander urged the officers to put in more efforts to enlighten the public on safety measures on the highways.
