FRSC Marshal Arraigned For Assaulting LASTMA Official

A 41-year old man, Dafe Attuah of 33, Lekki Epe Expressway, Olokola, Ajah, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, has been arraigned for assaulting an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.
He was arraigned on a 10-count charge at Magistrate’s Court 11, Tinubu, Lagos Island for assaulting Gbenga Elewuro, and a police officer, Seyi Adeniran, at Ajah area of the state.
The offender, who claimed to be a Federal Road Safety Special Marshal, hails from Delta State, southsouth Nigeria.
Trouble started for Attuah at about 6:30 a.m. yesterday when he was alleged to have driven a Toyota Camry saloon car with registration number RH 435 AAA against traffic from Abraham Adesanya junction to Ajah U-turn.
When stopped by the LASTMA officials for contravening the road traffic law, he allegedly became violent and resisted arrest. Attuah, who had his FRSC Marshal wrist band on his wrist, allegedly mobilised at least 15 hoodlums on motorcycles to the scene of the incident and unleashed mayhem on the LASTMA official and the police officer.
During the pandemonium that ensued, Elewuro was flogged with objects suspected to be charms and suffered cuts on his hand and leg. A lady suspected to be Attuah’s wife escaped with the vehicle with the support of the area boys.
Attuah was later arrested and taken to Ajuwe Police Station.
The offender pleaded not guilty to criminal and traffic charges when he was arraigned.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusamo, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 on each count with two sureties who must be senior civil servants on grade level 12.
She also ordered him to produce the Toyota Camry saloon car in court within two days..
Attuah was remanded in prison custody because he could not meet his bail conditions.
