Amaechi Rewards Dolphins, Angels Players

The Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, has rewarded the reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier League, NPL, Dolphins for their success in the 2010/2011 season.

At a lavish ceremony at the Rivers State Government House last night, the governor praised the players and officials of the NPL kings for their “monumental feat” that saw them being crowned as champions of Nigeria.

“I am indeed pleased at your achievement in the last football season. It was indeed a monumental feat and you will all be rewarded to spur you on to further successes,” Amaechi said.

The coaches in the team were all rewarded with the sum of N1 million (about $6,095.60) and a car each.

Players of the squad also received a Ford car each as well as N500,000 (about $3,048.78) for their efforts.

Dolphins are currently in fourth place on the NPL log with 51 points from 33 matches and the governor has now charged the side to retain their title.

“I know you are fourth on the NPL table, but I want you to go all out and win this competition again,” he said.

Dolphins media officer, China Acheru, said the reward will spur Dolphins to go all out and push harder to retain their title this season.

“The governor has fulfilled his promise,” he said.

“The governor said he is aware that Dolphins are fourth on the table and tasked us to go all out and win as same gesture awaits us and any team in the state who won trophies.

“He said the players will receive the keys to their cars Thursday if we beat Heartland on Wednesday, but if we fail to beat them, they have to wait for three weeks to get the cars keys. The cars are available at Government House,” he said.
