The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Ngozi Braide, has confirmed the arrest and detention of five policemen at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yaba, over the death of a commuter motorcyclist, also known as Okada rider.
The five policemen attached to Isashi Police Station were arrested for allegedly killing the commuter  motorcyclist at Iba New Site area of Lagos State, southwest, Nigeria.
They were alleged to have pushed the motorbike rider, simply identified as Effiong, out of a moving police patrol van after seizing his motorcyle and hauling him into their van.
P.M.NEWS  gathered that the policemen allegedly impounded Effiong’s motorcycle  along Iba area and insisted that it must be taken to their station.
It was also alleged that the policemen were angered at the insistence of the victim that he must know where they were taking his motorcycle to.
“Mid way into the journey, one of the policemen, identified as Killer pushed the victim out of the police patrol van. The man fell and hit  his head on the road. He  died immediately,” a witness alleged.
It was learnt that motorcycle riders in the area  mobilised themselves and gave the fleeing policemen a hot chase. Two of the policemen were arrested by the group while the other three escaped.
At least 20  motorcyclists stormed the police station, demanding that the other fleeing policemen be handed over to them.
