2 Jailed For Stealing Bus
Abdullahi Issa, aged 22, of Tomi Hotel, Suleija in Niger state and Fatai Aweda, 20, of Gidan Alhaji Usman Baba village in Kaduna State, have been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by the chief magistrate’s court, Ilorin, Kwara State for stealing a bus.
The court sentenced them to the jail term having found them guilty of stealing a Nissan Bus belonging to Alhaji Razak Ayo.
Prior to the conviction, the prosecutor, Inspector Moshood Adebayo, had prayed the court to try the accused summarily having pleaded guilty to the offence.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lekan Adegbite, who granted the oral application of the prosecutor, convicted the men of the offences of criminal conspiracy and theft , contrary to sections 97 and 289 of the penal code law.
The convicts are to serve the jail term at the federal medium security prison, Mandala, Ilorin.
The convicts had been arrested following a report on 17 May by Alhaji Ayo at Bode Sadu Police Station, Kwara state, that his Nissan Vannete bus, red in colour, with registration number Ekiti XA 813 MUE, was stolen from where it was parked.
The convicts were intercepted while driving the vehicle by men of the Nigerian Police Force, attached to Mokwa division, Niger State.
According to the police First Information Report, FIR, on the matter, the prosecutor stated that investigations conducted by the detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Ilorin, revealed that the convicts criminally conspired and stole the vehicle from where it was parked without the consent of the owner.
