‘Nollywood Flicks Lack Content’

A movie and social critic, Imam Mohammed Moshood Olanrewaju, has described lack of good content as the bane of the Nigerian movie industry  known as Nollywood.

The cleric, who is known for his public criticisms on the ills of the society, reiterated that Nollywood can only get better and earn its deserved international respect if the services of professional script writers are employed.

“It is unfortunate that our films are gradually losing their values. Most of our filmmakers now believe that the only way to attract audience is by shooting soft porn movies. That is a wrong  impression because you can still have grip of  your viewers with stories that celebrate good morals. Many homes and youths have been misled by most of their fictitious stories, and it is high time it came to a stop,” Moshood said.

The Kwara State-born critic, however, added that except for few filmmakers who have distinguished themselves by producing works that extol moral virtues, Nollywood would have been reduced to nothing.

He said: “There are still some of them that teach good morals with their films, but they are few now because the soft porn craze has taken over. I will still give Funke Akindele kudos because to an extent, her films teach good morals.”
