Kogi Scrabble Open Debuts

In a bid to ensure that the game of scrabble gains more popularity in the country, the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, NSF, and the Kogi State Scrabble Council have concluded plans to hold a national tourney, tagged; Kogi Open from 31 August – 2 September, 2012.

The inaugural tourney that would be competed in the Masters (for players with above 1350 ranking points), Open (for players below 1350 ranking points) and Veterans ((for players over 55 years of age and inactive captains of industries). The tourney will take place at the Confluence Hotels, Lokoja, Kogi State.

Secretary General of the federation, James Eakyns, said all the players featuring in the tourney would play a total of 15 games with each game to last for 20 minutes.

He also informed that players in the Masters category would register for the three days tourney with N10,000 each, while the Open and Veteran players would pay N9,000 each to compete in the tourney.

It was gathered that winners in the Masters, Open and Veterans categories will win cash prizes of  N170,000, N100,000 and N100,000 respectively, while the runners-up will get N80,000, N50,000 and N50,000 respectively.
