Federation Cup: Lagos To Mobilise Students For FInal

Plan is underway to mobilise about 5,000 students to watch the final of the 2012 Federation Cup at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on 26 August.

Secretary of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, for the final, Oluyomi Oluwasanmi, disclosed that mobilisation of the students is one of the plans being put in place by the Lagos State government to draw fans to the stadium for the final of the oldest football competition in Nigeria which  has produced great players for the country.

“We want to ensure that this year’s Federation Cup final is glamorous and part of the efforts is to ensure that fans are present at the stadium and among these fans will be 5000 students drawn from various schools in Lagos. We also want to work with the chairmen of the 57 Local Councils and LCDAs in the state so that the stadium can be filled up and the glamour associated with the competition can be restored. Some of the legend of the tournament will be invited to grace the final, ” Oluwasanmi said.

He said that the LOC has been working tirelessly to ensure that this year’s final re-enact the glamour associated with the competition with a mixture of sports and entertainment.

This became necessary following the concern of Governor Babatunde Fashola over the low turn out of fans during previous finals of the oldest tournament in the country.

Fashola, who donated a new silver trophy to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, says players in the country should always look forward to take part in the championship as the tournament had churned out great players for the country.

The LOC said that with top artistes expected to thrill fans during the final, some fans will also have opportunity to watch the match live with tickets to be given out to them through a planned radio programme.
