Abesan Cup: United Academy Coach Rues Defeat In Final

United Academy Chief Coach, Biodun Babatola is unhappy that his team failed to win the U-17 Dareta Abesan cup.

United Academy lost 6-7 to Future Heroes via penalty shootout after a barren draw at full time in the match played Monday at the Abesan Estate Football pitch, Lagos. Babatola told Grassroot Soccer Guide that he was impressed with the performance of both teams but noted that his team lost the game during the penalty shootout because of ill-luck.

“It was good match for both teams, and I must confess that my team played better than their opponents. We created many chances that would have resulted to goals, but we failed to utilise our opportunities, which we paid for during the penalty shootout,” he said

However, Future Heroes Coach, Saliu Yusuf, who was on cloud nine after the game, expressed gratitude to God for the victory.

He said the game was keenly contested but believes the better side won at the end of the day.

Match cordinator, Tayo Adeyemo commended both teams for the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited throughout the game. He also thanked the sponsor, Dareta Restaurant & Bar for its financial support for the tournament.

Future Heroes received the sum of N40,000 with a giant trophy, while the first runners up went home with N30,000.
