Boxing: More Bouts For Amateur Boxers

Amateur boxers in Lagos State will have another cause two smile on Sunday as the 1st edition of the much-anticipated Sunday Night Fights holds at Pinefield Schools, Lekki, Lagos State.

The championship, which is an amateur boxing series, is packaged by Gold Fist Promotions in conjuction with the Lagos State Amateur Boxing Association, LABA. Promoter of the event, Tunde Fadipe, in a chat with P.M. NewsSports, said that the goal of the organisers is to raise future champions in the state. “Our target in this monthly championship are the young talents in the state. We want them to use the tourney as a platform whereby they can express themselves,” said Fadipe.

He added, “We want to have a situation whereby the young boxers can use the tourney to hone their skills. We hope to discover as many young boxers as possible that will fly the country’s flag at thenext Olympics.” In the first bout of the event, Taiwo Abiodun of No Shaking Boxing Club will take on Olatunji Okunsanya of Champion Boxing Club in the 49kg category while Abua Christian of Paramount Boxing Club will trade punches with Saheed Lawal of WTT Boxing Club in the 69kg category. In the first female bout , Tawa Awise of No Shaking Boxing Club will put her strength to test against Funmilayo Adekunle of Golden Weapon Boxing Club in the 49kg category while Ayisat Oriyomi of Blessed Boxing Club will take on Vivian Vincent of Smart Boxing Club in 52kg category. The duo of Ibraheem Owoiya of Kamlat Boxing Club and Bassey Okon of Police Boxing Club will slug it out in the 75kg category while Gabriel Francis of Champion Boxing Club attempts to outpunch Segun Ibraheem of Warrior Boxing Club in the 91kg category.
