Cargo delivery at Terminal ‘C’ of Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos, operated by Ports & Cargo Handling Service Limited, a subsidiary of Sifax Group, has witnessed a boost with the commissioning of over N20 billion new Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG)  cranes and mobile harbour crane.

The commissioning was performed by the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Malam Habib Abdullahi represented by Malam Mohammed Bulangu, General Manager, NPA Western Ports, assisted by Senator John Shagaya, Chairman, Ports & Cargo Handling Service,  Otunba Olowu and Deacon Wale Afolabi, Managing Director, Instamac Nigeria Limited.

Speaking at the commisioning, the Managing Director of Ports & Cargo, Mr. John R. Jenkins said the RTGs and two additional mobile harbour cranes were acquired to boost service delivery to the entire shipping community in particular and Nigerian economy.

He noted that the five cranes were the first batch of ten RTGs Sifax Group placed an order for in 2011 while the remaining five units will arrive in the next one month.

Jenkins said the the equipment is in tandem with the vision of excellent cargo operations Ports & Cargo is known for which, he said, lays credence to the success story of the government’s privitisation policy.
