Civil War In NCC

Swanky buildings are hardly associated with roforofo fights. But that is what is taking place at the glittering headquaters of the National Communications Commission, NCC, in Abuja, where two heayweights are snarling at each other.
In one corner (we admit not knowing the colour) is Dr. Bashir Gwandu, NCC’s Executive Commissioner (Technical Services). In the other is Dr. Eugene Juwah, Executive Vice Chairman, of the commission.
As clash of egos go, it is top-notch. Gwandu, Juwah’s supporters say, is said to resent the Vice Chairman’s headship of the commission. Gwandu is said to have assumed that he would succeed Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Juwah’s predecessor.
So toxic has the situation become that the two men, working through proxies, have been calumniating each other in the media. Gwandu continues to deny that the feud arose from sore feelings over Juwah’s appointment, claiming that he is being targeted for blowing the lid on alleged frequency racketeering by the current leadership of the commission.
