Man Held For Sleeping With Step Daughter
A 62-year old man, Mr Alabi Ibraheem, who was alleged to have defiled her 10-year old step daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has been arrested by the police. The man was said to have been evading arrest for some days before he was arrested.
Confirming the arrest, the state police spokesman, ASP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the man has been arrested and he’s with the Homicide and Child Trafficking department at the Police Command headquarters, Eleweeran, Abeokuta.
The suspect was alleged to have committed the crime in their residence located at Opara Estate, Aiyetoro Road in Abeokuta. The police mounted a manhunt for him before he was picked up.
Our correspondent gathered that a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO),Child Protection Network, affiliated to UNICEF has shown interest in the case.
The young girl who is a primary six pupil in a public primary school while narrating her ordeal to the police, said she can’t recall the number of times her step father had slept with her.
She said each time he had sex with her the suspect threatened that she would die if she disclosed to anybody what is transpiring between them.
According to the girl,”Daddy always come to me when mummy is not at home, and warned me not to tell anybody, so that I won’t die.”
The secret came to the open when the girl told her experience to her siblings who revealed it to their mother.
A police source revealed that when the suspect was trailed to his hideout in Onikolobo area of Abeokuta, a political godfather whose name he did not mention, prevented them from arresting him.
At the police station, the mother of the victim, Mrs Adiat Ibraheem, who wept profusely said she is at loss as to why her husband would commit such a heineous crime.
Medical examination carried out on the girl, revealed that her virginity had been tampered with.
The coordinator of the Child Protection Network, Mrs Peju Osoba, declared that the network is interested in the matter.
She said: “We were informed about the incident, and as part of our objective, we resolve to take up the issue, even as far as going to court. It is absurd,why should a sane man behave in such manner.
The girl’s mother told the police that the suspect, a retired soldier, had been calling her on phone threatening to deal with her for inviting police to arrest him.
When contacted, Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident.
