Recalls Not Disasters –Toyota Nigeria

There is no need for local car owners to panic because of Toyota’s worldwide vehicle recall, Toyota Nigeria Limited recently assured at the Abuja Auto Fair.

“It’s not a case where motorists must stop driving and bring in their vehicles immediately,” C. K. Thampy said.

He explained that what triggered the recall was that Toyota discovered that a window switch in certain models could go dry and could lead to fire outbreak; hence they decided to recall the models to rectify the problem which he described as a minor one.

At the moment, he said that TNL is waiting for Toyota Japan to give it the chassis numbers of such vehicles that were sold in Nigeria to enable them rectify the problem, adding that it will take only few minutes to handle the fault.

“We will look at the chassis numbers and publish the numbers if found to be in Nigeria. It is a minor problem and we would apply a certain lubricant as the final solution,” he said.

He advised Nigerians not to panic over recalls as recalls are regular occurrences in the automobile world, pointing out that there is no renowned automobile company that has never had recalls. According to him, a lot of people in the non automobile world misunderstand recall as disaster but it is not. “It does not mean disaster. It means rectification of certain problem,” he stated.
