Gunmen Kill Policemen
Unidentified gunmen in a black colour Sport Utility Vehicle shot at three policemen, killing two of them while one was injured on Wednesday. The incident happened at about 9p.m. in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, southsouth Nigeria.
The injured policeman was quickly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa, where he receiving treatment.
According an eye-witness account, the incident occurred at Azikoro-Agbura Road in Azikoro suburb of Yenagoa. It was said that the policemen saw the reckless manner the driver of the SUV was driving and decided to stop them before they opened fire at the cops.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Fidelis Odunna (DSP), confirmed the incident to our correspondent on phone.
According to him, the gunmen were armed robbers who were on a robbery mission and sighted the policemen who were at their duty post and opened fire on them.
Odunna said the police are on the trail of the robbers and would track them down.
