Bribe Givers Face Prosecution

The Police Command in Kano State says it will prosecute anyone found enticing security agents with money at check points.

This is contained in a statement signed by the command’s Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Mustapha Abubakar, in Kano on Wednesday.

According to the statement, offering bribe to a security officer is contrary to Section 118 of the Penal Code.

“Such unsolicited monetary favour by these unscrupulous elements is an act capable of diverting the attention of security men at the check points,” it stated.

It said bribing policemen could derail the ongoing campaign by the command to rid Kano of criminals and protection of lives and properties of innocent residents.

The command said the Police Commissioner in the state, Ibrahim Idris, had constituted a team to monitor the activities of policemen at the check points.

It urged members of the public to desist from offering bribe to officers on duty, adding: “the command will use resources at its disposal to ensure compliance if members of the public refuse to do so.”
