Robbery Suspects Remanded In Prison
The police in Lagos have arraigned three robbery suspects, including a woman for allegedly robbing a trailer with goods valued N14 million along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.
Also charged along with them was the alleged receiver of the stolen goods, Yemi Ishola, 30.
They were slammed with a three-count charge of felony to wit, armed robbery and stealing.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused, Olayinka Ganiyat Quadry, 40; Maduabuchi Coleman, 42 and Jonathan Obiakor, 29 were arrested following a written complaint by Osama Aminu Zamau, who said the accused on 21 August, 2012 forcefully stopped at gun point his DAF trailer loaded with 3,468 cartons of Mr. Cheff Maggi, dragged the driver and the conductor down and robbed them of the goods.
The offence, the prosecutor, Inspector Marcus Okon stated contravened sections 297, 294 and 326 (1) (2) (b) of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State, 2011.
One of the charge reads: “That you, Yemi Ishola on 21 August, 2012 in the aforesaid Lagos Magisterial District did receive 3,468 cartons of Mr. Cheff Maggi valued N14 million at your warehouse at Ijora, Lagos, knowing same to have been stolen.”
The plea of the first three accused was not taken as the court lacks jurisdiction to try the matter.
The presiding magistrate ordered that they be remanded in prison custody pending the advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP on the matter.
She admitted the fourth defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum who must show proof of three years tax payment to the Lagos state government.One of them must own a landed property within Lagos Island Magisterial District, the magistrate directed.
She adjourned the matter till 12 December, 2012 for mention.
The accused were moved to Ikoyi prison pending their meeting the bail conditions.
