Police Have Dumped Us —Slain Inspector’s Family

The way policemen’s families are treated after their death has been described as disheartening.

Inspector Lisam Haruna, until his tragic death was attached to Oko-Oba Divisional Police Headquarters. He was killed along with two others during a gun battle between his men and armed bandits on 8 October this year.

Right now, the family of the slain inspector is not happy  with the Nigeria Police Force, especially the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Umar Manko, for not showing concern about its fallen bread winner or its welfare.

The inspector’s widow, Mrs. Mercy Haruna, who is a mother of five —Daka,  Saliu, Ayisat, Raliat and Salamotu Haruna, said: “The nonchalant attitude of the police over my husband’s death is worrisome. Policemen are self-centred people. I wept when my son, Saliu, a 17-year old student of Racy and Study Comprehensive College, Pipeline, Idimu, Lagos, said: ‘Mummy, where are all my daddy’s friends? So, no one can come from his last place of work, Oko-Oba Division and representatives from the Lagos State Police Commissioner to attend his burial at Awawa Ubosharu Kwali Area Council, FCT, Abuja,’. God is greater than all.”

Saliu Haruna said: “I can’t be enlisted into the Police Force with the way policemen are being killed. No sophisticated weapon, fake bullet proof and counter ammunition to face robbery and when killed, you are on your own.”

The deceased who once served at the State CID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State is also survived by Ayisat, an SS1 student of Divinity Comprehensive College, Pipe line, Idimu. Raliat, a  JSS 2 student of the same school, and  Salamotu,  a primary 3 pupil at the Police Children School, Idimu.
