RCCG Member Held For Impersonating Soldier

A member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has been arrested by anti-robbery police officers  for alleged impersonation as a serving solider in the Nigeria army.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the suspect, a 24-year old indigene of Okene in Kogi State, just got admission to the University of Benin to read Mass Communication.

According to our source, the suspect met one Kelvin, in military uniform, who told him that he was posted to Lagos to train corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja.

The said Kelvin was said to have assured the suspect that he would help him to  enlisted in the Nigerian Army after he (suspect) bought him a bottle of beer.

When Kelvin came to his house, located at 32, Jankara Street, Alagbado, Lagos the suspect introduced him (Kelvin) to his father.

According to the suspect, “thereafter, we went to his house at Iyana Ipaja, where he (Kelvin) gave me military uniforms to wear, promising to facilitate my enlistment into the Nigerian Army.”

However, the bubble burst for the suspect, who worships at Jacob’s Ladder Parish of RCCG at Agbado Ijaiye, Lagos when an argument ensued  between the  okada man that took them and a motorist, while on their way to NYSC orientation camp at Iyana Ipaja.

While the suspect, was arguing with the motorist, sources at SARS in Ikeja said Kelvin, who claimed to be a Lance Corporal disappeared from the scene, abandoning the suspect who  was arrested by police officers from Elere Police Station for alleged impersonation.

Police sources at SARS disclosed that the duo of Kelvin and the suspect were not actually going to the NYSC orientation camp, saying that they were using the army uniforms to rob.

The source said they were trying to rob the motorist with Kelvin dead drunk and a bottle of beer in his hands but  when he noticed that the game was up, he fled, leaving his accomplice.

“They actually attempted to snatched the car from the owner  when he wound down his glass; this prompted some onlookers to draw the attention of the police to the incident,” the source said.
