67 Prosecuted For Violating Traffic Rules

The mobile court of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Osun State Command,  prosecuted 67 motorists for violating traffic rules and regulations.

Osun State sector commander of FRSC, Mr. Imoh Etuk, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Osogbo that the court presided over by Magistrate A. A Olowolagba, sat on 11 and 12 December.

He said the accused were charged for contravening traffic rules.

He said that 61 offenders were sentenced to various imprisonment ranging from one month to six months, with option of fines of between N500 and N3,000, while six were discharged.

According to him, the offenders were arrested for vehicle licence violation, number plate violation, route violation and seat belt violation, use of phone while driving, overloading and riding motorcycle without helmet.

Etuk said the command had embarked on 24 hours special patrol to reduce accidents and ensure free flow of vehicles during the Yuletide and New Year celebrations.

He added that the special patrol which would end on 15 January, would cut across all roads in the state.

He appealed to motorists to put their vehicles in good condition and be patient while on the road
