Kano Police Recorded 1580 Criminal Cases In 2012

Statistics released by Kano State Police Command, northwest Nigeria, showed that the command recorded a total of 1580 criminal cases in 2012, while 2097 traffic cases were equally recorded within the period under review.

Sixty-two suspects were also prosecuted, while two kidnap victims were rescued by the police.

Despite terrorist attacks, which dominated over 70 per cent of the year under review, the command succeeded in arresting 217 armed robbery as well as violent crime suspects, killing of 21 robbery suspects, including the recovery of 29 abandoned vehicles in the metropolis.

Among others, the command also in the year under review charged 108 suspects with culpable homicide as well as impounded 1,123 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), while its Anti-Bomb Disposal Unit recovered and detonated 68 IEDs within the same period.

Also in the year under review, the command prosecuted 2097 people for various traffic offences and arrested 827 drivers for diving vehicles with tinted glasses without permit.

During the year under review, the Command recorded remarkable achievements in crime prevention, detection, investigation, prosecution and enforcement of law and order in the State.

The command expressed its appreciation to all religious leaders and other citizens of the state for their individual and collective prayers offered at mosques and churches, which to a large extent, helped to achieve the various successes within the year under review.

“Our traditional institutions at ward, district levels and the Kano Emirate Council must be commended for the cooperation, support and assistance they have been rendering to this command at all the times. Our sister security agencies operating in the state also deserve commendation for the synergy shared in the protection of life and property,” it stated.

The command’s appreciation also goes to the Kano State Government for their general support in the provision of logistics and welfare, which greatly enhanced its operational activities.

In a statement, signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Musa Majiya, on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the command also thanked the entire officers and men serving in the command for their dedication, sacrifice and commitment to the policing of Kano State.
