PDP Honours Obasanjo With Reception
Despite the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, both at the state and national level, the Southwest zone of the party has concluded plans to honour former President Olusegun Obasanjo with a grand reception in his hometown, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Obasanjo was also the former Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party.
The organising committee stated that it is being organised in appreciation of the former president’s immense contributions to the development of Nigeria in particular, Africa and the world, in general.
According to the programme of events, the programme will commence tomorrow with a lecture on “Obasanjo in the eye of history,” to be delivered by the former Ghanaian president, John Agyekum Kuffour.
The two-day programme will be rounded off with a grand civic reception on Saturday at the Ake Palace ground, Abeokuta.
Dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include President Goodluck Jonathan, PDP National Chairman, Dr. Bamangar Tukur and state governors, captains of industry, politicians and well wishers.
The reception is the first of its kind since Obasanjo who ruled Nigeria between 1999 and 2007 left office almost five years ago and also resigned as the BoT Chairman of the PDP early last year.
