Divorce: Wife Tackles Hubby In Court

A Nigerian housewife, Mrs. Helen  Monago, 33 has told an Igando Customary Court, Lagos that her husband’s promise to return the money she borrowed him to pay her dowry and for wedding has not been fulfilled.

Testifying in a petition filed by her husband, Mr. Johnson Monago, seeking the dissolution of their marriage, Helen told the court that she borrowed him the money because of his poor financial status then.

Helen described the petitioner as a drunk, adding that he was fond of beating her whenever she queried his late night movements.

The petitioner admitted that the respondent borrowed him part of the money used for their wedding but that he never promised to pay back.

He told the court to dissolve the marriage because his wife fights him always and doesn’t respect his parents.

He also accused her of going out and coming back when she likes.

“I want the marriage dissolved because I don’t lke her again,” Monago told the court. The case has been adjourned till 2 February.
