Lovers Should Watch It Today
Today is St. Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Valentine. It is popularly called Lovers’ Day. It is a day when some people express their amorous feelings for one another by sending flowers, confectionery and greeting cards while others express agape love.
Many couples take romantic photographs and do something unique that truly expresses how they feel for each other to mark the day.
St. Valentine’s Day has become an annual celebration since 1500 AD when it was established by Pope Gelasius to honour a Christian martyr, St. Valentine, who was executed by the Romans for conducting weddings for soldiers barred from marriage and ministering to Christians. It is marked every 14 February.
In this part of the world, St. Valentine’s Day is characterised by lovers in red, white and pink dresses, visiting eateries, pubs and other interesting places. Shops, eateries and some recreation centres are also adorned with red, white and pink fabrics to depict the day.
St. Valentine’s Day is a a day to love and be loved, a day of sharing of gifts . It is a day when differences are set aside for the sake of love.
As lovers file out today to mark the Feast of St. Valentine, it is our hope that they will be guided by the desire to express true love to their partners. By this we mean lovers should be sincere and genuine in their affection for their partners.
The day calls for a demonstration of true love and not selfish one where a partner tries to get the better part of the other just to satisfy his or her lust.
The lovers must open up on their fears and expectations from their partners. Differences must be laid bare in the true spirit of the moment and genuine reconciliation achieved.
This is the day for a divided family to be made whole through forgiveness and reconciliation.
Husbands, as the heads of the homes, must come down from their high horses and demonstrate true affection for their wives. They must have a large heart to forgive and forget and demonstrate true affection for their wives and children. In the same way, wives as keepers of the homes, must be very accommodating and exhibit those special qualities of a mother to their husbands.
St. Valentine’s Day is not all about having sex, as wrongly believed by some lovers. It is a day specially set aside for lovers to demonstrate true love and affection.
Young and unmarried lovers must avoid indiscriminate sex and kissing to avoid sexually transmitted diseases and those associated with mouth-to-mouth contact. Doctors have confirmed that indiscriminate kissing can lead to infectious diseases like tuberculosis and Hepatitis-B.
We also advise lovers to apply moderation in demonstrating their affection for their loved ones today. Lovers should avoid excessive drinking and keeping late night. Lovers should also watch what they eat to avoid stomach ache.
Apart from lovers, government can also seize the moment to demonstrate its love for the citizenry by making the day a memorable one for them by doing something that they will remember for a long time to come.
As lovers celebrate, we say happy St. Valentine’s Day.
