ISL Coach Hails Team After AKOFA League Win

Following their back to back success at the AKOFA Ivy Basketball League, Coach Ijeoma Ernest of International School, Lagos, ISL, said that this year’s triumph was the best thing to happen to him.

The long time coach of ISL boys said after his team  out-dunked their counterparts from Doregos Private Academy, Ejigbo by 52-36 points in the grand finale of the annual tourney held at the Indoor court of Avicenna International School, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos at the weekend.

Coach Ernest said: “I am very excited to finally win this competition today because we played against a Doregos team that were very determined and gave my boys lots of hard times. But we are glad to have won the match after all the hardwork and dedication of the players.”

The boys from Avicenna finished third after they won the third place match decided before the final match..

ISL’s players, Samuel Nwawolo and Ayotunde Ajayi were voted the Most Valuable Players, MVPs, in the senior and junior boys’ cadre respectively, while the duo of Elizabeth Balogun and Ebunoluwa Bello, both players of ISL, were voted by the organisers as the senior and junior girls’ MVPs respectively.

The grand finale was witnesssed by many dignitaries among whom  were a member of the Technical Board of Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, coach Agboola Pinheiro, the Technical Director of Lagos State Basketball Association, Gbade Olatona and last year’s caretaker coach of Lagos Islanders club, Patrick Omo-Osagie, who officiated the final match.

This year’s edition of the championship was sponsored bt Afrab-Chem Limited, Ship and Shore Services Limited and ABC Engineering Limited.
