Introducing Fast Rising Eckriz

Umoh Christy Ekaete a.k.a Eckriz

Music comes naturally to Umoh Christy Ekaete, a fast-rising singer known as Eckriz. She is from a family of musicians. Eckriz’s grandfather was a famous singer. Her own dad, Umoh Solomon Okon, was the leader in the late Christy Essien Igbokwe’s band. This was after a spell with Bright Chimezie and Onyeka Onwenu.

At 13 she was already treading the same path. At that formative age, Eckriz had an opportunity to sing on stage with the late lady of songs and that experience has been the motivating factor till date. But she has had to battle her dad who didn’t want her to do music. But she kept fate with her interest.

“My granddad was a damn good artiste but did not want my dad to sing. But because of his love for music, he trudged on. It was also the same experience with my dad who did not want me to sing. But because of my love for music, I did not listen to him and I thank God as I am moving ahead gradually,” Eckriz said.

Eckriz, a student of Lagos State Polytechnic, has already released three singles: Come Get It, Shake It and her latest, Tatali. All the songs enjoyed rotation on radio stations across the country, and she hopes to establish her style of music with Tatali.

Indeed the pretty singer is steadily building up her career on the Nigerian music scene. She has also has the honour of sharing the stage with a lot of famous Nigerian artistes including D’Banj, Timaya, Iyanya,  Onyeka Onwenu, J Martins, DJ Zeez, GT The Guitarman, and Fatai Rolling Dollar.

Eckriz has an advice for other upcoming artistes. “Whatever you do in life, don’t give up. Never be afraid to make mistake as it is normal. But where the problem lies is when you refuse to learn from your mistakes. Don’t give up on your dream. Whatever the situation, just be straight forward,” she said.
