FIFA Ranking: Pascal Downplays Eagles’ Status

Former Super Eagles player, Patrick Pascal, has said that the Coca-Cola/FIFA Ranking released Thursday by FIFA will have no effect on the Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

Adebobola Alawode reports that FIFA’s latest classification showed that the Eagles dropped one place to 36th in the world rankings despite picking up 700 points for the month, but Pascal argues that there is no cause for alarm. The ex-international urged Nigerians to be rest assured that the Eagles would defeat any opponent that come their way in the final playoffs of the World Cup.

According Pascal, “the ranking does not matter, I’ve the confidence that the Eagles will qualify for the World Cup.”

On the contrary, president of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Aminu Maigari said he is not too impressed with the recent ranking, saying: “I am shocked that we dropped in the FIFA rankings because everyone saw that we did very well this month with two very impressive victories against Malawi and Burkina Faso.

I still don’t understand how the rankings work.”
