APC postpones ward congresses in Katsina, Plateau and Adamawa

The All Progressives Congress (APC) have postponed today’s nationwide ward congresses in Katsina, Plateau and Adamawa states.

In Katsina, the APC Interim Management Committee Chairman, Alhaji Ahmad Dangiwa, rescheduled the congress for 9 March.

Dangiwa said that the rearrangement became necessary due to the late arrival of materials for the congress from the party national headquarters. “We have completed every necessary arrangement for the congress, but it cannot hold today as earlier scheduled due to non-arrival of candidate registration forms,” he said.

Dangiwa said that the party’s headquarters had assured them that the forms would arrive in Katsina today. He explained that as soon as the forms arrived it would be handed to the contestants to fill and return before Wednesday the rescheduled date for the congress.

Dangiwa assured that the party would conduct a free and fair congress `in accordance with the party’s constitution’.

In Plateau, APC State Organising Secretary, David Joseph, announced the postponement of the ward congresses was due to the non-arrival of party officials from the national headquarters. “The officials are in custody of the materials. As I speak, their arrival is still being awaited,” he said.

He noted that: “When they arrive, we will have to meet with the stakeholders to agree on a new date. We are told that their take-off was delayed due to the late release of materials to them. When they arrive, we will convene a meeting of all the stakeholders to work out a new date for the congress.’’ he said.

In Adamawa, the story was not different. Interim Committee Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Salihu Baba-Ahmed said: “Materials were brought yesterday (Friday) which is late. We have scheduled a meeting of stakeholders by 4p.m. today to fix a new date for the congress.”
