The Minister of State for Power, Alhaji Mohammed Wakil, has said the Federal Government would partner with the Borno government to build a renewable energy plant in the state.

Wakil said this when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno at the Government House in Maiduguri. He said the plant would help to tackle the perennial power shortage in the state.

The minister said the partnership would enable the government to accomplish its objective of making power available to all citizens without limitation. “Since the whole world is changing to renewable energy, we are ready to work with the state government to build a renewable energy plant in Borno.”

Wakil said he was interested in ensuring improved power supply in the state. “I am particularly interested in improving power supply in Borno, since this is my state. That is the reason why I came along with the Head of Transmission Company of Nigeria on this visit,” he said.

He then announced that work on the construction of the Maiduguri 330/132KV sub-station was nearing completion, adding that upon completion, power delivery would tremendously improve in the state.

“I assure you that I will ensure the completion of the project on time for economic prosperity of our state and the region. The project will improve power supply to Borno, with new feeders radiated out of the sub-station,” he said.

Governor Shettima thanked the minister for the visit and expressed his willingness to partner with the Federal Government on the power project.
